Welcome to The Dirt On Dirt

2-27-05 Step & VickySo maybe I need to start this blog by introducing ourselves. We are Stephen and Vicky Waterhouse and we have owned and operated Final Touch Construction since 1992. Stephen’s mother, Patricia Haddon Waterhouse, and my father, Brock Lewis, were born and raised on Nantucket. Stephen and I both summered on Nantucket until the early 1980s when we both moved to the island year round. We moved to the Cape after our first child was born to settle down and raise a family. We started Final Touch Construction when our second child was born in 1992. In 2006 Stephen decided to move back over to Nantucket with the business. We are a small, Nantucket family-owned business with all the services of a large company but the personal attention to detail of an owner operated business.

Before starting this blog I did a little bit of research and I Googled excavation blogs. Much to my amusement most of the blogs were about archaeology. Now Stephen does have his share of antique bottles, out dated soda cans, and arrowheads from digging around the Cape and the Islands, but I hardly think digging with an excavator has anything to do with archaeology. Our services include digging foundations, site work, septic systems, demolition, landscape construction, drainage, driveways, and sewer and water connections. The last thing we want to dig up is bones.

My goal for this blog is to help the average homeowner navigate through the unknown world of what goes on underground on your property and around the island. If anybody happens to read this blog and has a specific question I will be happy to try to answer it.

In the meantime, we just ended what I consider to be the coldest week of the year, let’s hope so at any rate. That means that Spring is on its way, and right on schedule I got a seed catalog in the mail yesterday. So it must be time to think about projects to get your yards ready for summer. Now is a great time to schedule a free estimate so that you can have your yard project done before summer and be able to enjoy it for the whole season.
